Lord of the Rings Is Occultic and Anti-Christ The Lord of the Rings was the sequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 novel, The Hobbit . This book series took shape in Tolkien’s mind in the late 1930s. One day as Tolkien was grading papers, he found a blank sheet of paper and a sentence came to his mind: “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit” (See "Who was Tolkien?" in Works Cited).
